Terms of Participation

What membership means, and what clients can and cannot expect. Please read this before you apply or submit a request.

Version 2026-11-04

The Haitian Association of Interpreters and Translators International, referred to here as HAITI, connects language professionals with the organizations and individuals who need them. This page sets out what that means for members, and for clients.

01For Members

Professional Independence & Membership

HAITI is a professional association dedicated to connecting language professionals, promoting visibility, and supporting professional growth. It is not an employer, a staffing agency, or a language services company.

Membership provides access to a professional network and potential opportunities. It does not guarantee assignments, referrals, or earnings.

Members maintain full professional independence, including the freedom to accept or decline assignments, establish their rates, negotiate terms, and manage payments directly with clients. HAITI facilitates introductions but is not a party to any resulting agreement and does not act as an intermediary, guarantor, or collections service. Disputes arising from an engagement are resolved between the member and the client.

Each member is responsible for the accuracy of the credentials they declare, for maintaining an accurate profile, for meeting applicable professional standards, and for fulfilling relevant legal, insurance, tax, and certification requirements.

02For Agencies & Language Service Seekers

Professional Connections & Engagements

HAITI serves as a professional networking and referral platform, connecting organizations and individuals with independent language professionals. It does not provide language services.

All professional engagements are arranged directly between clients and members, who independently determine their availability, terms, and service delivery.

Member profiles reflect credentials and experience declared by applicants. HAITI may review submitted information and request documentation; however, this process does not constitute independent credential verification, professional certification, or ongoing performance assessment.

HAITI does not employ, supervise, train, or direct its members, and makes no warranty as to any member’s performance, availability, punctuality, professional conduct, or the accuracy and fitness of their work. HAITI accepts no liability arising from an engagement between a client and a member.

Credential verification, contractual terms, and quality assurance remain the client’s responsibility, particularly where an assignment carries legal, medical, or immigration consequences.

Professional referrals through HAITI are complimentary, with no commissions or referral fees.

In short. HAITI connects people. It does not employ members, does not guarantee work to them, and is not responsible for the work they do. Everything that follows an introduction is between the two parties who made the agreement.

03Information you give us

The member register is not published. Today it is visible only to the officers who run the association, and it is used to match incoming requests to members who fit. Member details are not browsable by the public and are not sold or shared for marketing.

When HAITI refers a member to someone looking for a linguist, the association passes on the member’s name, relevant qualifications, and a way to make contact. That is the point of the referral, and accepting a referral means accepting that introduction.

HAITI intends to publish a searchable registry in future. If that happens, members will be asked first and will choose what appears. Nothing is made public without that step.

If you submit a request for services, please keep case numbers, medical details, and other confidential information out of it. HAITI shares the substance of a request with the members it refers it to, and the association cannot control what those members do with information you volunteer.

04Professional conduct

HAITI cannot resolve a contractual dispute, and cannot award compensation. It does care about professional conduct. If a member’s behaviour appears to breach HAITI’s code of ethics, tell the association and it will review the matter under its own membership rules. That review decides whether someone remains a member. It is not a remedy for your contract.

05Changes

HAITI may revise these terms. Each version carries the date shown at the top of this page, and the version accepted is recorded against each application and each request. Material changes are sent to members by email.
